Hi Peeps, well, I’m happy to report that I’ve well and truly adapted to life on the road! This week I settled into sunny Carnarvon and checked in to an unpowered site at the Discovery Park on Robinson Street.
I have to say, the staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The facilities are fantastic too — an amazing camp kitchen with a fridge, stove, oven, kettle, toaster and BBQ, plus a stunning glass swimming pool. There are plenty of toilets and showers, a laundry, shady trees everywhere and the constant soundtrack of birds singing. All in all, I’d happily rate this park a solid 9/10.
Most mornings started the same way: a 30-minute walk along a fabulous footpath, followed by a refreshing swim in the pool to cool down. And believe me, cooling down was necessary — by 8am the temperature was already sitting between 38 and 40 degrees! Thankfully my trusty rooftop tent doubles as free air-conditioning at night when I leave the window shades open.
While in Carnarvon, I took the time to slow down and really take it all in. I crossed the dry riverbed to cruise past the local plantations, checked out the famous OTC satellite dish, and of course there was no way I was missing the chance to stand on the iconic Fascine.
I’m also getting faster and stronger with the whole pack-up and pack-down routine — practice really does make perfect! This week brought a couple of special moments too. I managed to catch the Blood Moon through a veil of cloud, and experienced my first rainy night on the road… which actually meant being tucked away inside my tent listening to the rain on the roof. Pure bliss. There’s something magical about sleeping under the moon and stargazing through the glass top of the tent.
And Carnarvon lived up to its name once again. If you know me, you know I love to follow the sun — and they don’t call this place Sunny Carnarvon for nothing. The sunrises and sunsets this week were some of the most spectacular I’ve seen.
One very happy woman right here.
Now it’s time to pack up and hit the road again… next destination awaits 🌅🚙
