A Mother-Daughter Road Trip from Cairns to Byron Bay

Hi peeps!

The adventures continued with a very special addition to the Boomerang on the Road journey — a mother-daughter road trip from Cairns to Byron Bay! 💕🚐

There’s really no better way to bond with your daughter than spending four days together in a confined space, travelling hundreds of kilometres with nothing but the open road, wide-open spaces and plenty of time to talk!

For me, I was already well and truly in my road-trip rhythm. I’d been living on the road since February, so four months in, I was completely comfortable with the sleep, eat, drive, explore, repeat lifestyle.

For Suzy… well, that was a totally different story! 😂

After four days of sleep, eat, drive, Suzy was more than happy to park herself somewhere for a little while. And even happier that our destination was Byron Bay!

But before I tell you about our time in Byron, it would be very wrong of me not to give a shout-out to some of the awesome places we stopped along the way.

🌈 Rainbow Beach – A Little Slice of Magic

Our standout stop was definitely Rainbow Beach.

We stayed the night, enjoyed a game of pool, had a good old-fashioned pub meal and then, in true Boomerang style, it was up at the crack of dawn the next morning.

Except this time, we weren’t hitting the road.

We were heading to the beach to watch the sunrise. 🌅

Suzy cooked breakfast on the beach in the dark while we waited for the sun to appear over the horizon.

And wow… what a beautiful beach!

As the morning light started to creep across the water, the beach seemed to come alive with beautiful rainbow reflections. It was one of those moments where you stop, breathe and think, Yep… this is exactly why I’m doing this.

🚐 And Then… Byron Bay!

As long as the wheels on Max keep going round and round, I’m happy! 😂

After our road trip, Suzy and I spent a couple of days wandering around Byron Bay, and it was the perfect place to slow things down.

The beaches, the vibes, the shops, the food, the coffee… honestly, what’s not to love?

We explored, we ate, we drank coffee, we wandered, we laughed and most importantly, we got some quality mother-daughter time together.

After months of travelling, working, training and constantly being on the move, it was pretty special to share a little piece of the Boomerang journey with my girl.

🌿 Boomerang’s Top 5 – Cairns to Byron Bay

In no particular order, these were some of my favourite adventures:

1. 🗼 Byron Bay Lighthouse
A must-see and absolutely worth the walk.

2. 🌈 Rainbow Beach
Sunrise, breakfast on the sand and those beautiful rainbow reflections.

3. 📚 All the Bookshops!
Because apparently you can never have too many books… right? 😉

4. 🦪 Balcony Bar & Oyster
Good food, good drinks and a great spot to sit back and soak up the Byron vibes.

5. 🌊 Byron Bay Foreshore
Beautiful beaches, people watching and plenty of opportunities to simply wander with nowhere you need to be.

✈️ Back to WA

After a few beautiful days together in Byron Bay, it was time to pack up again.

This time, instead of jumping back into Max, Suzy and I flew back to WA for a few weeks — where I’ll be mixing a little bit of business with a whole lot of pleasure.

The road trip may have paused for a moment, but the Boomerang journey definitely hasn’t finished yet!

And honestly… after four months on the road, I reckon Max deserves a little rest too. 😂🚐

Until the next adventure…

Keep following the wheels of Boomerang on the Road! 🌿❤️
